Giclée print, 10 x 17", 200 S/N.  Oncorhynchus clarkii alvordensis

The Alvord cutthroat is purported to be extinct, having been hybridized out of existence

by stockings of rainbow trout into the Trout Creek and Virgin Creek watersheds.   This drawing

made from a trout caught in 2011 by David Kortum in Guano Creek, Oregon, has a strong phenotypic

resemblance to the original Alvord cutthroat.  Anecdotal evidence suggests Alvords may have

been transplanted to Guano by local ranchers prior to the 1920s.  Later stockings of other strains

of cutthroat trout probably hybridized the original planting of Alvords.
